I was with my family and we were getting Starbucks. As we walked through the public area where the outdoor tables and seats are, we passed a couple and their dog. The dog was tied to the table but as soon as my little brother passed the table, it lunged for my brother. It was barking and attempting to bite my little brother even though my brother had just been passing. The owners didn't apologize or anything. It's dogs like that, that I hate in public. There needs to be some basic etiquette lessons for dogs before they are allowed into public spaces, failure to do so should get the owner and pet banned. Unless the dog has been harassed, any aggressiveness like biting and lunging at people should never be allowed. Dogs should be expected to have basic manners of not running around trying to steal you food or hump your leg. I'm personally surprised that I haven't had al bitter of puppies yet. No growling and no scaring little kids. Have you had problems with aggressive dogs in public?

We used to bring our dogs to the mall, maybe once every 2 months. But this year, it seems that we have forgotten that activity. But anyway, we bring them along to vacations in beach resorts and mountain resorts as well. Our 2 white dogs are used to going out and they behave properly when out in public places. However, I cannot guarantee when there is an animal around like a cat or even another dog. Barbie, our youngest dog who is a pekingese would show her ferocity upon seeing another animal. But with people, they just ignore them.

I'm sorry to hear that your brother was almost bitten by a dog in a public place @Wolfheart57. So far, I haven't experienced anything similar while in a public place. There are some occasions when a dog would bark and growl at me while I am passing by a road or street. I'm glad I have never been bitten though but these kinds of dogs really scare me. I think the responsibility really lies on the owner. If an owner knows that his/her dog has the possibility of becoming aggressive towards people in public places, then he/she should not attempt to bring his/her dog along with him/her until proper training on the dog has been done.

I haven't had that experience in public, but not all dogs are the same. There are certain dogs that aren't obedient and head strong. They will never learn how to behave in public, but it's up to the owners to know what they have on their hands and act accordingly. In that case it's not the dogs fault, the owners know that the dog is aggressive and should be more cautious because of this.

I suppose dog training should start from an early age to inculcate the correct attitude and behaviour towards people. Its also good to expose the family dog to people from different places but this should not be construed to mean docility. They should be able to detect the prescence of intruders especially during the night. Some people make their dogs to develop an attitude of fear in an attempt to correct their aggressive behaviour.

It is not the dog you should hate, in fact we shouldn't hate at all, but if you really have to, hate the owner. The dog is not responsible for this behaviour because dogs are not reasonable creatures like we are. Dogs respond on instincts, on some memories and commands, on scents and other stuff that we provide for them. It is really a shame that people who are not able to take care of a dog have dogs. My dog sits without leash and smiles to everybody.

Sometimes dogs need to go in public. Just like in the park for them to be used to with humans. Dont bring them in malls and food facilities because it can harm other people.

I haven't had a problem like that in public. Maybe because I usually go to parks where the owners know what they're doing about their dogs, but this is mostly an issue of the owner and not necessarily the dog.
