The toxic component of cocoa products are dangerous to our dogs. We humans can easily metabolize that certain toxic component "theobromine" but dogs are not; it will build up to their system that cause to become harmful to the dog.
Dogs are different from humans. Humans can easily metabolizes the toxic component of chocolate products while dogs are slowly metabolizes it. In this case, the body system of your dog make the toxic level rise up that can make your dog killed. If your dog eats a chocolate product it depends on the amount and the weight of your dog. If you see any signs that your dog was poisoned it`s better to consult his/her to a veterinary clinic.
Just like humans, dogs react differently different types of food. I have seem many consume food that not for dog, and fare just fine. Chocolate ordinarily, shouldn't be consumed by dogs because of their metabolic system that is not as effective like that of human, but many dogs take chocolate and are not worse off.
This was something I only learned around 10 years ago when my grandma mentioned about chocolate being allergic to cats but that it was also allergic to dogs too.
The amount of people I have seen in the past who have given their dog chocolate and a large amount of it without realizing the dangers is awful, it should be pushed out there more I feel.
When I read about giving chocolate to dogs, I found out that it's too toxic and can cause their death. It's registered in my mind to avoid giving my dogs chocolate to eat because it contains some group of compounds called xanthines and caffeine. These chocolates can lead to many things like vomiting, restlessness and in some time, it can cause death.
