I have been making my dog food for about a year now. He has some sort of strange digestive issue that multiple vets can't really figure out, but when he is on dog food he vomits almost every time he eats. We've tried reducing portions, special bowls, no activity after eating, withholding water around food time, limited ingredients, wet and dry food, and about 25 different brands all at the behest of various vets and it does not work. Making him food at home seems to solve the problem. I usually give him beef (chicken doesn't seem to sit well with him), as well as fish (sardines or salmon) sometimes, veggies, eggs, eggshells for calcium, and sometimes rice to bulk it up but he has been doing fine lately without grains.
I cook a dish for my dog instead of dog foods because I think my dish is so very healthy than dog foods.
My mom used to give her dogs boiled chicken every day. She said it helped keep their coats healthy and they lived a little longer than her other dogs. She gave them too many treats though, so they were always too fat.
I don't have the knowledge of how to make my own dog food myself. It's why I use mostly branded dog food for my dog and he really enjoys it. Sometimes, I let my dog have some of my own food especially stakes which he loves so much.
I can't say that I have ever made my own food for any dog that I have had or taken care of. I can understand why some people would want to make their own food though as making your ow ensures they get all of what they need and less of the bad stuff that may be found in dog food.
It is always very important for you not to feed your dog only homemade food. Add supplements to what they are eating. A dog made food is something that is always going to be more healthy for them. This is something that was recommended by dog's vet to do and I have been doing it that way. It have always had my dog to be very healthy.
