I don't tie my dog up at all. That's why there is a fence around the property and a sign that reads beware of dog. Now my house dog only goes outside to relieve itself and back in the house. He doesn't roam outside of the fence where someone can carry him off.

But I feel that a tied up dog is inhumane. A dog is not human but it is still part of the family. He has feelings just like you and I, and I could not image being chained up like a slave.

I am not into keeping the dogs tied, unless the situation calls for it. When I was a kid, I had a dog that used to follow me around. One time, we we're walking and we happen to come across these 4 humongous dogs. They were much bigger than my dog. It was obvious that they didn't like my dog at first sight. A little fight ensued. It's a good thing the owner of the four dogs was just nearby. The man was able to stop his dogs before they could do real harm to mine. From then on, my dog and I made sure not to pass by that area. I guess the four dogs thought that we were invading their territory.

We keep our young large breed dogs tied up out side when we are not available to supervise them. when they are young they have to much energy to be allowed unsupervised in the house. We live near both horses and major roadways, so leaving them free to roam is not safe. Are older dogs are left untied as they can be trusted not to cause mischief. I personally have never had a problem with people tying up their dogs. I would prefer that a dog be outside where it can still move, play and see new things than in a crate.

The same situation applies to where I come from. Man's best friend is generally cautious when it comes to strangers just like us. Dogs also have different personalities and dispositions. I have had the misfortune of being in the eye of the storm with sabre rattling canines intent on having a piece of me. Dogs are fast learners and easily make new friends albeit tentatively. There is also the risk of them becoming stray dogs if they are entirely left to their own devices.

I live in an apartment with my dog, he is small and has the run of the house. The only time he is tied up is if I go out for coffee or brunch with a friend and we sit in an outdoor cafe. Then he's tied up to the chair or rail or table leg or what have you so he can be near me and not wander off. Frankly, the leash is more for the restaurant/other patrons as Butters would never wander off. But that's the only time I would "tie up" my dog. I suppose it's due to the size of my dog, the lifestyle I have, and the way we interact.

Our dog is small so we don't tie her down almost ever. She's really nice toward others so no one has even mentioned that she needs to be kept away and out of sight. Probably tying down a dog goes more to larder dogs since people are more afraid of them since it's harder to control a dog almost your size than an animal that can easily just be picked up. I kind of get it why some people want dogs to be kept on a leash, but then again it's really cruel.

I think it depends on the situation. Leaving a dog outside alone, tied to a tree all day, is obviously not a good thing to do. But if you don't have a fenced-in yard, and you want to sit outside with your dog and enjoy the day, I don't see why you can't tie your dog to your chair or a tree and let him sit outside with you.

But then again, I live in an apartment block in a city where the law is that all dogs must be leashed. So it's a little different than if somebody lived out in the country with lots of room for their dog to roam.

In my place tying dogs is just a normal practice because they think dog is just a animal that can guard their place. But i think this doing is so wrong because the person that is doing this not just making it feel bad to the dog but tying it and not letting it go around to play makes it aggressive. So my suggest to all that want to have dog is to make sure that they are ready for the responsibility because dog have also feeling and not just a thing.

We don't really tie our dogs inside the house because we own two small ones. I guess this applies to larger ones when they have visitors who may be afraid of larger dogs, even if they are gentle.

Whenever I have guest in my house I let my dog tied up. For him not to make a mess and for my guest not to be afraid of. Even though my dog behave I choose to tied himp up if i have guest. Always be sure of the things that might happen. Dogs are angry with strangers.

Yes, we have the same situation here. I really am not a fan of people who leave their dogs tied/chained outside with no interaction or supervision. I am equally concerned about their mental health as I am physical, as they can't escape if something else attacks them. But when I am outside with my dog I will tie him to the chair or porch while I'm sitting with him. I would never leave him alone like that though. Our town has all sorts of silly requirements and fees you have to pay before you can put a fence up so it's just not worth it.

For me I keep my dog tied every day for safety reasons only when we go out for jogging and walking because if my dog will bite somebody else on the road I will be in trouble. It also keeps my dog to avoid to run away towards the street where many vehicle past around and get bump. And it depends if I am inside the house I make sure my dog is free to run and play around the house so that he will not be boring. You do not need to tie the dog and just free him into your back yard if you have a wall around it to prevent the dog to escape.

I feel sad for that dog, tied all day. But it's reasonable also, they're just protecting the possible visitors. But my dog Odie, I allowed him to run free, and good thing is, he's friendly. and if we have visitors, simple bark from him is enough to get our attention, and he will stop immediately if he knows that we got the attention. But I think the proper handling and understanding to dogs is enough, no need to tied up. The owners should always talk to pets about the do and don'ts. they are able to understand that.

If your dog is the aggressive kind of dog, it's better to have him or her tied up always for safety reasons. Some dogs can kill with a dangerous bite if they are trained to do so. My dog is calm and gentle, so I hardly tie him up.
