I have a female cat and a male dog. Our dog is also compassionate as a male he is. Though sometimes he shows tha agility of a male but he loves us because he was trained with love.

Female dogs are protectors. It's why I love them so much. When they start having babies (puppies), they go on a full mother mode where they wouldn't allow anything to come in between them and their puppies. 

A dog's sex isn't what makes it to be smarter or dull. It's the level of training which the dog have been subjected to that's going to determine how smart the dog will after training.
