My dog is a Bichon Frise and I live in Texas where the summer heat is BRUTAL. When I was reading up on this breed I learned that they overheat easily. I make sure he has lots of water and when he starts panting quickly, I bring him inside to cool off.
This is exactly how I manage my dog during the hot summer. It gets awfully hot in Texas. I hardly leave my dog outside during the hot sun unless it's in the early morning or evening time we go for a walk.
We go for early morning walk and not that hot sun routine. I will be at work during that period while my dog stays at home and wait for me. Our walking routine is either early morning or evening when everywhere is cool.
We don't always take a walk in summer but whenever we do, it will always be in grasses or I will backpack it with my bag. She's not much of a bigger dog.
Recently there has been advice to remember that in the summer the pavements get very hot and your dog can burn his paws and even get blisters because of it, what precautions to you take in the summer for your dog? Mine has to have suncream on his nose and because he loves to lie out in the sun we have to make sure we get him in the shade as often as possible.
It's very important to do everything necessary to help your dog feel comfortable the time when the weather is very hot. They can't take care of themselves which is why they are dependent on their owners.
