My dogs don't seem to mind my cat at all. My cat feels differently, and it's unfortunate. The dogs just run around tails wagging 90 miles an hour. The cats lifts his back up and runs away scared. Wish there was more I could do to make him like the dogs.
Funny thing is that now when I look back I guess my dog has never actually met any cats. At least not close enough. I live in the area where you don't normally see cats on the streets, so the chance of them meeting is pretty slim. But judging by the fact that he wasn't really fond of the most of the dogs around, I believe he wouldn't have approved of cats either.
I have to say that my dog doesn't like cats at all. Though we never have any cats in the house, but if he sees a cat around he will chase it or bark at it. He isn't thrilled seeing stray cats around our home, which is fine with me. I don't like cats using my area for their outdoor business. It is gross and unhealthy.
I had a chihuahua mix breed before and surprisingly, she's very fond of the kitten that we had before. That kitten was very stubborn and was always stealing food. One time he stole some food on the table and because of that, we put him outside for a while as a little punishment. Our dog whimpered as if trying to protest. She really loved the kitten.
We have both a dog and a cat. Our dog is two and a half, and our cat is almost 5 years old. Right now they get along like the best of friends - they nap together, they play together - it's super cute to see. At the start though, it was a different story! As we had our cat for a couple of years before we decided to add a dog to our family, he was pretty territorial and used to being the center of attention -- and he was not a fan of our dog at all (despite our dog loving him and wanting to play!)
I think that our dog is probably going to be comfortable with most cats - since he's only known a household with a cat! 🙂
Absolutely! My 4 years old Puddle lives with us along with a cat and they're really good friends, I do not really believe the cats and dogs myth when they basically say that cats and dogs hate each other or something like that, it's a total lie, I do not really know why people say that whatsoever.
They actually share their food and also their bed, and of course, our love.
It's pretty funny to watch them play and eat together, I don't know why I have not recorded them eating yet, I will probably do it later and share it with you guys.
Both of my small dogs love cats, they however have grown up around cats and that really helps I think. I actually let me dogs and cats outside at the same time most of the time and there is nothing funnier then watching the cat chase the dog around and play with them!
My dog gets unnerved by one of my cats who tries to 'stare him down' but he is fine with the other two cats in my household. In fact, the youngest cat treats him like an honored ancestor and goes out her way to clean him and help him down the stairs (his eyesight isn't great). As long as their is ample food, room and bedding for the animals, they will get along well enough with ONE exception. If an adoptable adult dog is naturally aggressive towards small animals and was not raised with cats, it is very hard to tone down the dog's innate prey drive.
My dogs are a little wary of the cats because they're smart. They don't hiss and growl at each other yet. The brother's dog likes the cats the least and usually sticks close to my brother when he's in the house or in his room. My dog though has to deal with the cats because most of them are mine. My mama cat and my dog get along really well, she even lets the her near the kittens. The kittens of course don't care that they distress my brother's dog or annoy my dog, they will chase and crawl all over them. My dog likes to play like she's annoyed but she's obviously pleased because she lets them sleep on her when it's nap time. The kittens will probably grow up to very comfortable with the dogs because they don't know life without them.
My dog is a Bishon and loves our cat. I rescued a small kitten in a church parking lot and he liked that one as well.
They say that a pet is the reflection of the owners character. My dog loves everything and everyone. I am not implying that I am a very good person but I tried raise him like that and actually I feel as a better person since I have Joe. He changed my life entirely. We have 6 or 7 cats, my uncle has them but we share the backyard so they just wander around all the time. They use Joe as a sunbathing mat. Really. He is a 40 kg dog and when he lies on the ground and that is all the time, the cats just gather around an on him. They really love each other.
My dogs absolutely hates cats, no surprise though as we never raised cats in my house. I don't hate cats but I've never had an attachment to them and I think my dog can sense my indifference and he probably thinks he's defending me. My mother loves cats though and she'd like to adopt one once our dog passes away from old age. She grew up with them and thinks it would be a good change at home.
My dog Andrea likes our cat Tommy. My dog is a friendly dog and can be trained as well. She likes playing with our cat and sleeping next to him. She likes sharing her food to him . They guard our house together and they make our house loud. They go together hunting rats and hamsters.
I have four cats, and my big, "scary" pit bull is terrified of them. He turns his head and refuses to look at them whenever they enter the room. It's hilarious! The youngest cat tries to play with him, but the dog won't have it. He will get up and leave the room if the kitty gets too playful.
My dog is not a fan of cats, he acts brave but I think essentially he is afraid of them. How does you dog react to cats?
My dog is still not exposed to cats, so I'm not sure what his reaction is going to be like having a cat around. Maybe I would find out soon enough because my sister is a cat lover and she is visiting me once her semester is over. She doesn't go anywhere without her cat. So therefore, I'm getting ready for a nice observation how my dog Billy would react to her cat.
I have seen some dogs that gets so unrest at the sight of cats, I seriously don't know the reason for this, maybe it's in such dogs nature to hate cats. And there are some that are very comfortable with cats around them. I have seen several videos of dog-cat company.
Here is a picture of my dog Billy, how good does he look?
