I like all dogs, be they pure bred or of mixed origin. But I can't deny that I prefer dogs that are quiet, or that don't require much work to be silenced. Obviously, it mostly depends on a dog's individual personality and its surroundings, whether it tends to bark a lot or not. And, of course, its training.
But there are certain breeds that tend to bark less than others. I find that Greyhounds, Wolfhounds, Huskies and Cattle Dogs are generally quieter than other breeds.
What's your experience?

If I remember correctly the only time that I have heard about a breed that barely barks was the Japanese Shiba Inu, or perhaps it was the Akita, I don't remember exactly but I am sure that I was a Japanese breed.. They were bred this way on purpose as it was considered distasteful for a dog to be too noisy so they barely vocalize at all, or at least that's the way it was until recently.

I think Greyhounds are really quite. My uncle has one and he doesn't bother anyone. He seemed quieter when compared to my spaniel who seems to know 50 languages and doesn't mind speaking them 😛

One of my friends has boxers with a tiger pattern.
These big, bulky dogs are the most quiet and happiest, calmest dogs I ever met. I also heard that pit bulls are really really calm, so keeps quiet too.

When thinking about quiet I mostly think about the farting and snoring of pugs and not like barking and noise making dogs. Pugs are the loudest for sure 🙂

My grandma's golden retriever Sammy was really quiet but that could have been because she babysat the cats. But the time I heard her was when she would beg for hot dogs or hamburger bits during a barbecue. And she only made those sounds with us grandkids because we were suckers.

I think that for the most part, a quiet dog depends more on personality and how they are raised. I live in the city and most of the big dogs are expected to be quite and well mannered. But all the miniature dog are allowed to be aggressive and loud.

Huskies...quiet? I've never met a quiet husky. Every single one has been so mouthy! I got into an argument with one before >_>

For me, the quietest breeds are the Japanese native breeds (Shiba Inu, et cetera). They are known to be very cat-like in personality and rarely bark unless alarming their owners. Another breed that I found to be rather reticent is the Great Dane.

My niece and nephew both have American and French bull dogs; and they are quiet dogs! That's why they are great dogs for apartment living.

My dog is a pit bull and bull dog mixed, so his instinct is to protect his territory. Normally, he won't bark until he sees someone walking around our house, or knocking on the door, or ring the bell. I suppose he is just doing his job!
