Sometimes dogs reject food based on their own proclivities or an emotional and possibly a physical problem that it is possibly suffering from. This results in emaciation and physical deterioration at a time when it needs food most in order to have forbearance to cope with the situation. What do you do in order to restore the animal's appetite?

Well that depends on what they suffer from.

If it's trauma, one needs to tackle the dog's anxiety and see what kind of behaviour the dog doesn't respond to: Some depressed dogs respond to hand feeding, some others don't because hand feeding was used as bait to abuse them. It's kinda complicated. Basicaly you have to show the dog some affection and expect it to open up to you. Which is really hard if the dog is in a shelter because you don't want the dog to become too co-dependent.

If it's a physical illness like cancer or gastrointestinal problems then one needs to see whether the dog's symptoms can be minimised to allow it to eat, and if they can't be minimised then make the food somewhat irresistible, like using meat treats instead of dried dog food.

I can't imagine a dog having no appetite. Mine's like a food hoover. Anyway, I'd start on small treats inside small portions.

Haha, this is exactly the same thing with my dog. He might be angry but once there's food, he's up and happy immediately. Who doesn't like food?

It might be a health issue that's making a dog reject food but if it happens not to be linked to any health challenges, then I would unequivocally say that the dog wasn't hungry. Once he's hungry, he's definitely going to eat his food with ease.

If your dog rejects food, he's not healthy unless he's never a good eater from puppy 🐶.

My dog eats very well even when he's not strong enough.

There are various reasons why this could happen it is either the dog doesn't want to eat or dislikes the food and wants something else.

If your dog rejects food, it can only mean that something is wrong with his or her health and it affects the digestive system. I try not to over feed my dog because he loves food so much and it can eat all day.
