We have several neighbors who refuse to keep their dogs in their own yards. They actually have fenced-in yards, but let their dogs roam free. I have no fence around my yard, and usually have the garage door wide open.
Countless times, I have gone into the garage to find neighbor dogs foraging for food or terrorizing my own pets.
Have any of you faced similar situations? The neighbors know when I am yelling at their own dogs to go home, but the situation continues.
The small town we live in faced budget cuts a few years ago, so we no longer have an official dog catcher, or I would call him.
I'm at my wit's end. How to discourage other people's pets from trespassing.
Take lots of videos and pictures for evidence. Then politely tell the owners that the dogs are trespassing on your yard, the next time you find them there you're going to call the pound or the sue. It won't get you liked by your neighbors but they obviously don't respect you anyways so you might as well have some peace. If they don't change, call the cops for abandonment or neglect of the dog.

I totally agree, many people just don't take certain situation as serious as they should. This is a serious legal issue, and some people just see it as their dogs are free to do what they want and shouldn't get in trouble.
Me personally, I'd hate to do it, but if they ran in my house, I'd probably shoot them if they were big enough for me to not want to wrestle around with them.
Your neighbors need to understand the seriousness of the issue, you just need to be straight forward, they will know you mean business when you do.
Dogs are usually attracted to food and since they are voracious feeders, they try to explore the neighbourhood in search of food remains. So the best way to keep off strange dogs from your yard is to make sure you don't leave the same outside and keep the compound clean. It is also prudent to repair the fence so that the animals don't take advantage of gaps and loopholes.
To keep the dog out in your own yard. Try to keep them scared at you. Try to throw a rock on them but dont hit them directly. Throw it near them as if you were targeting the dog.
I think the best thing to do for you is to really have a fence that would secure your surroundings. But if that is not possible for you to have it. Probably, you have to file a complaint to the authority maybe to the police station or for example like here in our place we have chieftain so that they will be informed that this matter is really bothering you and they have to take an action to rectify this.
Be civil at first and talk to your neighbors directly. You can't really try to control dogs which are not yours unless you construct tall fences around, so best way is to document what the dogs are doing and inform your neighbors about it. If they won't discipline their dogs and this continues, file a complaint to the proper authorities.
If you want to avoid confrontation, I guess you can file an anonymous report about some abandoned dogs in the neighborhood.
