What does it really mean whenever dogs especially male one's start licking their penis frequently? Does it mean that they are on heat and want to mate or is it just them trying to keep themselves clean? My dog is fond of doing it all the time and I want to know why.
It's a very common thing with most animals and dogs do it very often. You shouldn't have anything to worry about.
They are keeping themselves clean. It's part of grooming. Your dog is a good dog!
I wouldn't worry too much about this at all. It is all part of the grooming process with your dog and he is doing what he should be doing when he is cleaning himself and grooming.
With it being that particular area as well, it would need more cleaning then other areas which would explain why he does it as often as he does.
