My grandfather was a bit of a dog expert and always insisted on keeping mixed breed/mongrels rather than pedigree dogs. He always said that the mixed breeds were hardier. Over the years I've seen first hand that it is true although I didn't necessarily understand why. Of late I've come across a lot of literature that talks of the down side of breeding pedigree dogs. I'm just curious to know how many people here would choose a pure bred dog over a mix.
If you're just looking for nice looking dogs I would recommend pure bred, but if you're looking for dogs with certain attributes, I'd definitely recommend mixed breed.
Those are just my preferences and opinions though, somebody else may be able to give an opinion too.

I'm actually wondering what people would choose in terms of the dog's well-being rather than what they want out of the ownership. I guess nice looking isn't a criterion.
Thoughts? I guess I'm neutral in this, if there is a dog I really like, I don't care if it's a mixed breed or not. There might be some differences between various breeds, but overall they're all dogs and have similar personalities. 🙂
I don't mind pure bred dogs. I own all pure bred dogs, but it wasn't as if I went out of my way to only choose pure breds. My mother had fallen in love with the dog from Harry Potter and received our English Mastiff for Christmas one year. In turn, he had puppies with another English Mastiff, and we ended up with his daughter. We also have a German Shepard.
I love all dogs and I don't discriminate against any certain breeds. Dogs are simply dogs to me and all of them are welcome in my home, so long as I can cater to them. I'd have to say that I am fairly neutral as well.
All dogs are good and loveable, we shouldn't discriminate against any of them. they are all good boyes
