I haven't had many male dogs, mostly female. Both my male dogs were Chows with sweet dispositions and friendly with neighbors and their females. None of my females were Chows, but all have been brilliant and the little Butterfly top dog was pretty bossy, while my lab female was serene as they come and my black American Cocker was an avid kisser and my Manchester Chihuahua was known for her playfulness. All my females were notably intelligent, though I'd put the lab in first place there. Upon request, she'd go collect her mate out in the big yard and bring him into the dog yard to eat and get ready for bedtime. She let me know when there was a mouse in the plastic traps that needed to be disposed of and where there was any other issue that I needed to take care of.
Right now we have 3 dogs - Tisoy, an 8-year old spitz, Pipoy, a 3-year old pug, Barbie, a 3-year old pekingese. Barbie is the youngest and only female. But it is noticeable that she is the leader of the pack, so to speak. The 2 male dogs seem scared of Barbie and worse, Barbie bullies the 2 males who are submissive. Even in going out of the house (when we let them through the glass door), Barbie would bump the other dogs so she is first to go out.
Maybe Barbie is smarter thant he boys hence she gets the best of them.
I have had dogs all my life and find that intelligence is really based on the breed and the personality rather than gender. I have had smart male dogs and smart female dogs. I will say, however, that male dogs seem more prone to wanderlust than female dogs.
I think with time and love any dog can do amazing things. I have noticed some of my females being more intelligently inclined than their male counterparts. However, I had a little lady who would eat her young and seemed a little less intelligent. In my opinion, I'd say its luck of the draw with females slightly winning.
I think female dogs are smarter. They have to nuture their young and teach them to be independent. I had a few female dogs throughout my childhood and they always were smarter.
I have experience with both male and female dogs and it really comes down to the dog itself. The cleverest dog that I have had was a half breed male Germain Shepherd, he could understand when I was speaking to him. I never did count the amount of words he could understand but there quit a few of them. I had a female dog at the same time and she was the exact opposite, instinct was her biggest drive, but they complemented each other perfectly.
Don't know if smarter, but females behave better than males, and some breeds are more docile than males. Young Males like to crap and piss every corner to claim territory. And also they lose their temper everytime a fertile female is spotted. But besides that, I can't tell the difference between female and male dogs. A female dog can be pretty agressive and restless too.
I've only had male dogs and neutered ones at that, and at times they seemed fairly smart, while at other times they seemed like the dumbest creatures on earth. I had one dog who would run like the wind... with his eyes shut. I'd turn him loose to get his exercise and he'd sail around and around the yard and I'd see him doing flips into the air whenever he'd connect with a tree, or some other object that happened to leap out in front of him... like the house, for example. No matter how many collisions he suffered, he still didn't like the wind in his eyes and would close them at takeoff every single time. Surprisingly, he lived to a nice old age for a medium-sized dog, despite all the head dents he must have endured over the years. My husband had a female dog, a silly little thing all in curly black fur. That pooch didn't know whether she was happy, mad, sad, or seething. She would greet me at the door every time with loud, obnoxious yappity-yaps, then growl at me with bared teeth. Five minutes later, she'd be on my lap, happily licking my face. Odd little animal for sure. Smart dog? Not so you'd notice, I'm afraid.
Eh, personally it's a case to case basis. Most of those saying female dogs are more intelligent are just anecdotal, we need to have a proper study in order to determine level of intelligence. I have seen intelligent male and female dogs, just like how there are more intelligent female and male people.
I think female dogs are very caring since they do care for thee babies and let it feed for themselves. I already have a female dog before and I am pretty happy to have them since it is more responsible than the male dog in my own observation.
We have different things in mind. My male dog is looks smarter than my female dog. So maybe it is somewhat random. Means that the gender is not a factor for being a smart dog. 🙂
I think so too, female dogs are very smart too from my experience and observation.
Male dogs are smart too but female dogs are smarter.

It's just like human beings as mother's are always very soft to their kids and will go to any extent to protect them against anyone or threat. It's why I love female dog so much.
Female dogs are often more compassionate and clean though this is not a general fact as a well trained dog be it female or male would behave in this same manner.

Yeah, that's very correct. When they have to take care of their puppie, they always go to any extent to look after them and provide for them. They can be very aggressive when protecting them.
