My dog is not a fan of cats, he acts brave but I think essentially he is afraid of them. How does you dog react to cats?
Alexis is always chasing the neighbors cats, not to harm them but they are afraid of him. Before my cat passed away, she and Alexis were best friends. He would chase her then they would play like two kids.
Yes, they live together perfectly fine. I think it's because I introduced them gradually, as well as introduce a puppy to my older (2 and 4 year old) cats. I think it's in animal instincts that you shouldn't quarrel with kids, and it applies here as well. They went along fine, and they even sleep on the same area too, which is pretty sweet.
My dog and cat are like brothers. I received my dog like a year before I rescued my cat. They absolutely love eachother. I never had a situation where they acted strangely towards each other.
Both my dogs are have the classic approach towards cats. They funny thing is that they aren't any bigger then what they are, but cats do run away from them. I don't blame them with all the racket they make when they chase them.
My dog is curious about cats. He wants to sniff them, figure them out, and play with them. Most cats are not pleased with that plan. First they make the warning noise, then they hiss, and then if he's really unlucky, he gets swatted in the nose. I watch the process with amusement. He seems to need to do it with every new cat, though lately, I think he's finally figured out the correlation between the hiss and the nose smack because he has started to back off immediately when they hiss at him. He's still curious but if they're clear that they don't want to play, he gives them a wide berth.
My dog is pretty big and she loves to chase the cat. When she catches the cat she holds her down with her paw and licks her head. She tries to be nice to my cat but because shes so big she can sometimes hurt her. They have a love hate relationship and its pretty funny sometimes.
When my biggest dog was younger he used to fight with cats... pretty scary right? he actually have some scars on his body thanks to those fights. But now he just ignore them, I guess he finally learned his lesson, lol. When it comes to my other two dogs I think that they don't care, I mean they are really small in comparison to the other dog, so as you've said I guess that they are just scared of them, who knows!
Nope. They don't even like any other alien animal near or inside the house either. My boxer has chased and killed iguanas, doves and possums. It's fortunate that cats are in general more wary and faster than the previous animal, although they keep coming and climb my roof in search of mice and geckos.
I also look some tegu lizards strolling around my backyard too, these are fast and elusive animals. My dog chased it everytime but with not success.
My little one does like them, he usually plays with cats when they come around. As for the big guy.. let's say their meeting ends up with a lot of barking and grawling, he doesn't like cats at all.
I tried training him but to no avail, he hates cats as much as he hates vegetables in his food, and he despises vegetables. 😛
All three of my dogs dislike cats- which is odd because one of my dogs grew up around cats. I would be fearful if a cat made it's way into my yard. Not only are my dogs protective of our property, but if they were to see a cat, the cat would probably become mangled. I don't understand why dogs have such a hatred for cats. I could see one of my dogs being alone and maybe tolerating a cat, but as a pack they would want nothing more but to hurt it.
I remember our dog Tootsie, who just died recently, he actually loves cats. He loves this one cat so much that he lets her eat from his own bowl of food. Yup, he's that nice. Our other dogs though are a different story. Once they see a cat approaching our gate or house, they start barking like crazy. They hate cats to the bone and won't want anything to do with them.
But I remember my husband telling me that they used to own a cat and she was so nice that even all the dogs like her. So I guess it depends on the cat? Maybe the dogs can sense if the cat is nice or not? Is there a study like that? Lol. They have great senses, so why not? Maybe if they know that the cat is there to steal their foods, they are quite upset about it.
My dog likes everything alive except for flying bugs. He likes frogs, cats, pigs - anything. He's awesome, but as soon as he sees a fly in my room, he is a murderer.

I had a German Shepherd growing up who was like that. He loved the barn cats and thought they were his own special friends. He would lick them, share food from his bowl, and happily gulp down the remains of any prey critters they hunted down and didn't finish eating. It was pretty cute to see them laying together. We had one indoor cat though that refused to tolerate his rough friendship. Poor dog ended up needing stitches a few times after encounters with her claws before he learned to avoid that specific cat.
I'm ashamed to write this comment. Our 3 dogs are the nemesis of cats in our area. There are so many stray cats here that neighbors are already complaining. However, one neighbor close to me owns those cats numbering more than 30. Some of those would venture in our property and sometimes we would see a cat sleeping on the sofa in our terrace. But they cannot stay for long because we have dogs who hate cats.
At the slightest sign of a cat, Barbie, our youngest dog would bark continuously until you let her out of the house to investigate. Most of the times, the cat has already gone away. But we had captured a scene in video where Barbie was chasing a cat that jumped on over the fence. Tisoy, our oldest dog at 9, also hates cats but not as much as Barbie does while Pipoy, the pug, is always inside the cage for his hyperactive behavior so he is not much involved.
