It's not too often I see them anymore where I live but I remember when I was a kid I would see a lot of people who owned dogs and they would have a dog house in their garden for their dogs. It was mainly used for dogs that much preferred to spend more time outside rather than inside so that they had a place to go if the weather turned whilst they were outside but wanted to stay outside.

When my dog was still a puppy, I had an indoor dog house where he usually stays. But as he grows and outgrow the house, he stopped using it and adjusted right into the full house.
