My sister in law is a Vet and she's the very first reason why I had the chance to have my own dog. My first 3 dogs were all Duchshand. And I have a funny way of naming them. The mother Duchshand is 'PENGUIN' and the father is "ELEPHANT". Then I named their puppies as "GIANT" and "ALADAR". Giant is the smallest one :-). Then my bestfriend gave me a Japanese Spitz on my birthday whom I named "CRUNCHY". I called her crunchy because her fur never really gets that soft as compared to other spitz no matter what shampoo and conditioner I use. Along the side I also have 4 local dogs whom I love dearly. The last dog that I ever had was "BORIS". He is a Great Dane, the largest of all the dogs that I ever have.

I must agree that Boris got a different attention from me because I never cut loose of him after he bit a child and cost me some amount for the kids vaccination and all that stuff. I put him on a modified and customized cage because of his size and I really made it a point that he won't feel that he's in a cage. The cage was so spacious that I even allowed 2-3 of my other dogs to play with him at times. Among all, I must say that an intrigue attention was driven to Boris because of my guilt that he has been caged throughout his life. Whenever I am home and have the time he is the center of my attention. I love him so much. I have so much fun with this dog and he made me feel that I am so protected whenever I am with him.

As forced by my work, I needed to settle to a different house all week days and just go home over the week ends. That was the time when Boris got sick and stopped eating. He eats when I am around but tend to ignore his food and didn't even drink once I am away. That routine persisted for 2 more weeks till I have decided to bring him to my sister in law who could provide absolute care while I am figuring things with my work. And when I finally decided to go back home and filed my resignation, it was too late. He's gone. From then on I gave all of my dogs away with nothing left for me and promised myself that I will never have another dog in my life again.

I still have that guilt. As if I let someone died in my own hands and didn't do anything to save him.

I would just like to share how I really appreciate my dog's presence and the loyal companion it gives me. I am a stay-at-home mom who also works at home in my computer, and most of the time it is just me and my dog who's left in the house.

Sometimes when I'm just too tired doing my chores and my work, I would just sit next to my dog and talk to it as though I'm talking to a real person. It's also as if my dog understands me because it attentively listens and looks at me when I speak. Let's just say that we both understand each other because we've been companions for a long time now. I consider my dog as my loyal best friend more than anyone else now.:)

When I was a kid we had a sassy little dog named Prissy. She was a Chihuahua, and very petite even for this small breed. We had her since a pup, and for several years. Our family had no choice, but to pack up and move to the country. She truly enjoyed the freedom and being able to roam. She always traveled with our male dog that was a lot larger than she was. We always knew he would protect her if he could. One evening my dad was standing outside, and he was rounding up the dogs for a meal. She was running full speed and a bird or owl snatched her up. My dad was pretty far away and he had no time to help her. We never saw her again. I remember for months after that we would walk around the pasture where she was taken crying. We begged and pleaded for a miracle. We weren't ever granted a miracle, but we were given that horrible hard accident. I don't think we will truly ever recover, and most importantly we will always remember Prissy. If you have small dogs please be careful. Especially out in the country. I know it seems so unlikely, and trust me if we ever thought this could happen we would have prevented it.

I don't really remember the age he had. Anyway, the rain was pretty hard, and thunders were heard. I couldn't sleep. I did not know why. I turned on the backyard bulb and saw my dog under the tree. He was taking shelter from the rain. I felt a bit sad for him so I took him inside. He slept in my bedroom. When I woke up, there was poop and pee above the sheet I was sleeping! I was confused about it. I didn't actually think he would do that! My mother got angry that the sheets were dirty. She told me that it was okay to take him inside, but I would have to train him NOT to do that. Any similar stories to this?

When we were growing up my mother had this dumb idea to be a schnauzer breeder. Trust me I know there are so many dogs out there looking for a home why do this?! It was her idea not mine I was just a kid at the time and was excited about puppies.
Well, we had a male schnauzer and so my mom looked around for a female. We found one of those dreaded puppy mills and found a female in it. What they didn't tell us is she was the product of the bad kind of incest. She was mentally retarded on so many levels. I tried telling my mom that certain things about her were not normal. She blew it off and let her breed anyways. Roxanne refused to lay down and feed her babies. She ended up only having on litter because babies were not her thing. In the littler there had been a puppy born with a hole in the roof of its mouth. Roxanne hated him and refused to let him feed when she was in a giving mood. So I milked her, yes you can milk a dog, it takes forever but it is possible. We bottle fed him for a week before we realized that all the milk was coming out his nose. We took him to a vet and found out it had gone to his lungs and he was slowly drowning with each passing feed.
A week we fed and loved this puppy. My sister and I taking turns on the night shift and letting him sleep with us for warmth waking up to feed him.
They had to put him down.
That is when we tested Roxanne and found out what we did and still kept her but got her fixed. We loved her still no matter what was wrong with her. Baxter loved her till he passed and when he passed she passed shortly after him. We think with even as crazy as she was, she loved him.
BTW all but that one puppy made it and found forever homes really fast and since we found out about Roxy my mom didn't charge for them.
