My dog is currently loving his frisbee that I bought for him a month a go. It had a squeaky ball in the middle of the ring, but that didn't last long. He chewed one side of the ball off and lost his squeaky, but he still loves that frisbee and carries it with him when he goes to bed :)

It's always painful when you lose a dog. They are always so dear because they are part of the family. I can't forget when my dog was killed in a hit and run. He died on spot and I was so broken. It took me 2 years before I was able to get over him and get another dog.

Yeah, that makes sense. Maybe it’s not “mourning” exactly, but they definitely feel the absence and show it in their own way because it’s clear they form real bonds.

If not mourn but they miss the person or animal who passed around them.
They do search for humans or their brothers, sisters, other pets in the family. There are several stories of collage kids leaving home and the pets really missing them.

I don't know if mourning is the right word, but they do have a lot of empathy.

I make my dog walk on the grass not the sidewalk because I often worry about the hot pavement. When I go for walks in the summer I take the water hose to my dog and get her soaked so she isn't overheating and I get her to walk in the shade of course. I don't know of anything else that can help her with the heat.

That’s really thoughtful. You’re already doing a great job keeping her cool. Walking on grass, sticking to shade, and keeping her wet helps a lot. You could also try going out early morning or late evening when it’s cooler, and maybe bring a little water for her to drink on the way.

Yes, that is a valid concern. Coyotes have even been known to attack even humans. They attack by suffocation by targeting the jugular vein. However, coyotes can be useful in sustainable conditions as they eat nasty pests like mice and rats. The best way to keep pets safe from being attacked is to clear bushes around the home and creating coyote proof fences.
