At the first sign of a symptom

Since our dogs are part of the family, I treat them like my children. At the first sign of a symptom, I act on it immediately. And when the vet is needed, I would call our vet (fortunately one of our 2 vets make home service).

Like last week, Pipoy, our 3-year old hyperactive pug was emitting a sound like coughing. Our housemaid said that Pipoy may have the colds. The vet came and had prescribed medicine. Another time, one other dog, Tisoy, our 8-year old spitz, has rashes in his tummy so I again summoned the vet. It is not good to ignore the symptoms. Do not wait until the problem gets out of hand.

Thats recommendable though I try to appreciate the fact that dogs have their origin in the wild which means that their immune systems are a notch more effective than ours. They should be examined on a periodic basis by the vet as well as administration of routine vaccines to prevent zoonosis which jump from dogs to people. It is a recognized scientific fact that a degree of exposure to infection strengthens the immune system.

Very admirable, Corzhens. I wish more people had that kind of thinking when it comes to the health of their pets. I'm also glad to hear that the veterinarians did their jobs adequately to stave off illness. Letting something go or watching it get worse with the hope of a natural cure sometimes leads to terrible results. Since we can't understand our animals to know the root of the problem, we can only hope to nip a potential problem in the bud.
